Our History

Tontrac was founded in 2012 by Devin Butler and Sean Pistorius in Sean's garage, with the idea that there was a better way to capture and process data collected at mine access points and on weighbridges than the existing paper based processes. They were joined by William Butler as Angel Investor.

With Devin as the Architect, Sean and a small team of developers working from his garage wrote the code for the first version of Tontrac. The System revolutionized how mines could track and control their flow of product and was quickly adopted by one of the largest Coal Mining Groups in Mpumalanaga, South Africa, along with the Hauliers that moved their production.

Operating out of shared offices in Witbank, a small group of technicians supported the first mine customers, whilst the Software Development team rented a space above a brewery in Johannesburg.

Under William's leadership Tontrac has grown to over 50 sites across the region, including Eskom the national power generator and is actively pursuing expansion into the Southern Africa region.
